Diary [manuscript]. 1879-1880.

Diary of a voyage around the world on the American barque "Sara S. Ridgway". The diary entries cover the following periods: 8 Sept.-22 Dec. 1879: New York to Sydney via Cape of Good Hope; 23 Feb.-10 June 1880: Sydney to London via Cape Horn; 20 July-31 Aug. 1880: London to Philadelphia. Interspersed with the diary entries are two lengthy passages describing Anderson's impressions of Sydney and London. The Sydney passage refers to public buildings, theatres, J.C. Williamson, transport, churches, hotels, the Botanical Gardens, the Sydney International Exhibition, Coogee, Paramatta, Bondi, Balmain, the Blue Mountains, and Australian manners and dress. The London passage refers to public buildings, churches, railways and the opening of the Albert Docks.
